NATIONAL PENN MAKES $20,000 DONATION TO FREEDOM VALLEY YMCA

2009_Freedom_Valley_Y_Pottstown_Branch_02Boyertown, Pa. – August 13, 2009 – National Penn announced today a $20,000 donation to Freedom Valley YMCA. The donation was made under the Pennsylvania Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program, through which National Penn Bank and its divisions are contributing more than $300,000 in 2009.

The educational contribution will go to the Freedom Valley YMCA’s Financial Assistance Program and will be used to support pre-kindergarten (pre-K) scholarships available to local qualified families. The YMCA offers state approved curriculum, character development programs and food programs in well-equipped learning areas through four of its locations: Audubon YMCA Early Learning Center, Phoenixville YMCA Child Care Center, Pottstown YMCA Child Development Center and Spring Valley YMCA Early Learning Center. Children also participate in field trips, special in-house events, foreign language instruction, swimming and music lessons, and physical education through indoor and outdoor play time. (more…)

Reading Comedy Outlet

I was the kid who sat at home every Friday and Saturday night watching stand up comedy on TV. I am a comedy fan, a fanatic.

Though I still watch Standup on Friday and Saturday nights, I now have the privilege of seeing it live.

My senior project is with the Reading Comedy Outlet. I chose it for my passion for comedy. It has been a great experience working there. My first night I got to meet Paul Bond and Glen Jensen, two very funny guys who were also very friendly and answered my questions about the business.  (more…)

Pottstown Target Store Opening on Sunday 7-26

Target LogoTarget said Tuesday that their new Pottstown Location will be among the 23 Target stores nationwide that will have grand openings on Sunday.

The new location, at 100 Upland Square Drive in Pottstown, Pa., will be a general merchandise store with expanded food options including basic fresh produce, fresh meat and bakery goods. It will employ 165.

Montgomery County to Formally Launch Economic Development Program

Montgomery County formally launched its Countywide Strategic Economic Development Program, a seven-year $105 million effort to revitalize our older communities and attract private investments, Wednesday, July 15th at 4 p.m.

An overview of the program was be presented in the Community Room at the Montgomery County Human Services Center, 1430 DeKalb Street, Norristown.

The overview was followed by a reception introducing Ken Klothen, the new Director of Economic Development, who was hired by the County recently to oversee the program.

Police Standoff with Pottstown Area Man: Coventry Glen Development

Unconfirmed reports have just come in, apparently there was a standoff on Sunday evening with an unnamed man in the Coventry Glen Townhouse Development.

Homes were evacuated and local police took the man away unharmed after about an hour of negotiations.

No official word has been given as to why police were called to the home, or exactly how police apprehended the man, whose name has not been released.
